A LEGENDARY 71-YEAR TRADITION

Since 1954, the Rotary Club of Sheridan, Wyoming has hosted hunters for sportsmanship and fellowship in one of America’s most unusual and inconceivable hunting adventures. We have welcomed over 400
hunters from around the world to celebrate this extraordinary tradition.

This year marks our 71st anniversary and we hope to host our first group of international Rotarians for an
unforgettable Wyoming experience.

WHAT MAKES THIS HUNT UNIQUE

Special Legislative Authorization

Our club receives 25 deer licenses annually through Wyoming Statute 23-1- 705(c) – issued above normal quotas by legislative action. This means our guests don’t have to enter the Wyoming Game & Fish drawing for limited out-of- state deer permits.

FOUNDED BY VISIONARIES

This tradition was conceived in the early 1950s by the late Jack Gage (Governor of our Rotary District) and Dr. Fen Downing, who worked tirelessly to establish this unique hunting opportunity through the Wyoming Legislature.

Complete Itinerary

Thursday, October 9th
Evening: Welcome meet and greet with refreshments and
appetizers
Friday, October 10th
Morning: Prairie dog hunting and lunch (provided)
Afternoon: Rifle practice and friendly trapshoot competition
Annie Oakley challenge
Buddy trapshooting competition
Evening: Celebration dinner and drinks at The Barn in the Big
Horn (covered by club)
Late Evening: Traditional “Calcutta” auction – humorous
presentations and bidding on who will harvest the largest deer
Saturday, October 11th – HUNT DAY
Sunrise: Meet your Rotary guide for transport to designated
private land locations
5:00 PM Deadline: All harvested deer must be delivered to
Valley Meat Processing
Evening: Celebration drinks and appetizers
Sunday, October 12th
Full Day: Fly fishing trip on the Big Horn River (Montana) – a
world-renowned destination
Lunch: Provided by the club

Hunters Responsibilities:

Hunting License: Each hunter pays cost of their Wyoming
hunting license (see Wyoming Game & Fish for 2025 rates)
Transportation: All travel expenses to/from Sheridan, WY
Deer Processing: Valley Meat Processing – typically $150+
depending on deer size and products chosen
Hunting Gear: Bring your own rifle, ammunition, or use ours
— and hunting necessities including required safety orange
